Can you tell us about Kaufland's expansion?
Since Kaufland.de was launched in 2021, Kaufland Global Marketplace has expanded to seven countries, including Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, and as of late summer this year, France and Italy.
The marketplaces are experiencing strong growth, with a remarkable year-over-year gross merchandise value (GMV) increase of 106% following the expansions in Poland, Austria, and the development in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
This year's expansion continues our international growth trajectory. By entering France and Italy, we are tapping into the third and fourth largest e-commerce markets in Europe, presenting significant potential to become the largest online platform in the region.
"Our European focus reflects our commitment to safety, fairness, and adherence to data security and product quality standards."
How does this work with the other channels and stores?
Our all-in-one solution allows sellers to operate nationally and internationally across all Kaufland marketplaces with just one registration, giving them the potential to reach up to 139 million online customers. The integrated multi-marketplace technology enables centralised management of all offers, orders, and product data from a single portal. Sellers receive additional support through various services, as Kaufland takes over a wide range of tasks along the customer journey, including top-level customer support in the appropriate national language, automatic translation of product data and customer tickets, and payment processing with relevant methods, all complemented by personal seller support.
What are some of the advantages of your marketplaces being European-headquartered?
We enjoy several advantages, particularly our strong understanding of local markets and consumer behaviour. This allows us to tailor the user experience to meet the diverse needs of customers and sellers. For example, we offer country-specific payment methods based on customer preferences. Additionally, our EPR management services help sellers comply with regional sales regulations.
Kaufland operates in eight European countries with 1,600 physical stores, achieving brand recognition of up to 99% in marketplace countries. This benefits our online marketplaces, which collectively attract up to 43 million visitors monthly in all countries. Our European focus reflects our commitment to safety, fairness, and adherence to data security and product quality standards.
